Yoda, again

I'm swamped again.

Re-reading that old post, I'm pretty pleased that I correctly pegged myself as Han-like.

Smart boy

A commercial for Fox Sunday Baseball came on while we were watching our post-dinner Simpsons.

APL: Look, [Angry Boy], the Yankees are playing the Giants this weekend. Remember how last weekend we said, "Boo, Giants!" because they were playing the Red Sox?
AB: Yes.
APL: Well, when the Yankees play the Giants, which team do you think we root for?
AB: (ponders silently)
APL: Do you think we root for the Giants?
AB: Yes... Because we hate* a whole bunch of the Yankees except for one. He is very good and his name is Doug.**

* I swear I don't use this word around AB, not even when discussing the Yankees. We just say, "Boo, Yankees."
** We were watching the June 2 game together when poor Doug got concussed. We watched the replay over and over. Poor, poor Doug. Doug has a ring, you know. Which is why we like Doug.

So freakin' what?

Out of desperation for something -- anything -- to post, and without much (read: any) spare time on my hands, I give you this tidbit:

Not one, but two of my comments were posted in Weingarten's chat last week (link pending). Whereas that didn't used to be a monumental occurrence (back in the Old Days), given the growing popularity of his chats I consider it a major coup.

Or something.

Late-night-motion-drafting Random Ten

It's been a long time since I've had one of these working-late random 10s. (And thank God for that. I ain't as spry as I used to be.)

  1. "Carolina in My Mind" by James Taylor

  2. "Keep the River on Your Right" by Jonatha Brooke

  3. "Real Gone" by Sheryl Crow

  4. "New Slang" by the Shins

  5. "Rockin' the Suburbs" by Ben Folds

  6. "City of Blinding Lights" by U2

  7. "Love, Reign O'er Me" by Pearl Jam

  8. "You and I Are a Gang of Losers" by the Dears

  9. "Wound Up" by Office

  10. "Saint of Me" by the Rolling Stones

Update on last night: I did go to bed before 10:30 (although NSAH was reading in bed after that, and at one point he woke me up after 11 pm). Wonder if I will wake him up when I go to bed tonight; I hope not.

Thomas the Lead-Based Tank Engine

Unlike several of his school friends, AB has never really been that into Thomas trains...

... so I'm anticipating that any second now, there will be a recall on various and sundry plastic dinosaurs.

(Unrelated: my goal is to go to sleep before 10:30 tonight. I think I can, I think I can...)

Admit it, you've missed the bullets

  • Scads of rude people out there today. Mr. Jackass-At-The-Coffeeshop, if I ever see you again, I'm "accidentally" spilling my coffee on you. I hope the server spits in your coffee if you ever come back. There is no excuse for rudeness such as yours.

  • Happy birthday to the best mom in the world. Yet another day to sit back and think, "Wow, how did she do it?" (And continues to do it, as the best Grandma in the world.)

  • Small Dog smells. I don't know what he rubbed himself on outside, but peeyew!

  • Thanks for the Random Food Plugs, you guys. In that vein, I have a new favorite beverage: the Orange Mocha Frappuccino Light from Star$s (only 150 calories in a medium/grande). (I think it was Blonde Justice's post that inspired me to try something new there.)

  • Creature Comforts is my new favorite TV show. AB likes it, too, although he doesn't get most of the humor (at least, I sure hope not).

  • I need to line up babysitting now for the June 22 weekend so I can see Evan Almighty. On July 12/13, I'll probably ditch NSAH for a midnight showing of HP and the Order of the Phoenix. I'll be sooooooooooo tired the next day, but I don't think I have anything scheduled the next day at work.

Rhymes with crap

There is a sign at a nearby Blimpie sandwich shop that irritates me every time I see it. It displays a picture of a milkshake/frozen concoction, and it reads:

Don't worry, be frappe.

Clearly, the person who came up with this ad campaign has never even heard of the product he or she is trying to pitch.

Making an ass out of mom and dad

We just heard the plastic "clink" of a toy from AB's room. (Bedtime was over an hour ago.) NSAH got up to check on him.

NSAH: Hey, buddy, what did you drop?
AB: I dropped my cup that I was drinking out of.
NSAH: The cup you were pretend drinking out of, right?
AB: Right.
NSAH: Can we look for that in the morning?
AB: OK. (pause) I assume it's under my bed.
NSAH: (stifling a laugh) I assume it's under your bed, too.

That Angry Boy, he cracks me up.

Random Food Plug

A while back, Halloween Lover had a post about her new favorite food product, Fiber One granola bars. I was so impressed with her enthusiasm, I picked up a box on my next trip to the grocery store ("NEW!" screamed the sign on the shelf). Well, she was right to be all excited about them. They rock. I am in love with the peanut butter ones (not as impressed with the chocolate). I am a schmuck, however, and never properly thanked HL. So a belated "thankee," my dearie!

I then started to think about the random food products I love, and how maybe one of my readers would similarly be thankful for a product recommendation. So here's my totally unsolicited Random Food Plug:

Weetabix Crispy Flakes. So good. Best flake cereal, hands down. And definitely in the Top 3 of cereals I have ever had in my lifetime. Our Giant used to carry it... no more. (Boo, Giant!) But NSAH and I were thrilled to discover we can buy six ... SIX!!!... boxes at a time through Amazon.

It is sweetened with brown sugar (if I'm recalling correctly--we don't have a box in the house, so I can't verify). Definitely not corn syrup, high-fructose or otherwise. And it has 4g of fiber per serving! And 3g of protein. And it is so tasty. Sweet, but (because there's real sugar in it) not needlessly so.

How about you? What is a food you'd recommend to all your friends? Preferably something that's available in stores (or relatively available online).

Han shot first

Best show I've seen on TV recently is "Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed," which is being rerun now and then on the History Channel. I've especially enjoyed the interviews with Colbert, Kevin Smith and Peter Jackson.

The only bad thing about the special (well, aside from all those Camille Paglia snippets) was that, whenever it showed clips from "A New Hope," it showed the ultra-geeked-out-special-FX version. The fancy version. The crap version, if you will. For example, they showed a clip of the cantina scene, likening Star Wars to the Old West. In the clip they showed, Greedo shoots at Han (missing him by at least a foot) a split second before Han fires back, killing Greedo. Soooooo not what really happened, and it pisses me off everytime I see it.

When AB is old enough to watch Star Wars ("A New Hope") -- which he will be in a few more months -- I will be showing him the 1977 version, untouched, unedited, and un-remastered (would that make it simply "mastered"? How very Jedi).
