Happy Independence Day
In the spirit of this day of our independence from the monarchy, I pose this question:
Do you suppose the people who get so upset over "activist judges" who supposedly usurp the authority of the legislature by "making new law" will be likewise outraged when the executive branch usurps the power of both the legislative branch (U.S. Sentencing Commission, whose powers were delegated to it by Congress) and the judicial branch (the federal judge who in his discretion sentenced Libby within the Guidelines range)?

And to think, everyone was up in arms because Paris was getting out early. Too bad she and Scooter didn't have the same judge.
Yeah, where was the judge in the Paris Hilton case when you need him????

Happy Independence Day, my ass. I'm feeling downright pessimistic today.
Some conservatives are consistently conservative, and truly despise what this administration has been doing in the name of the Grand Old Party.
Not that I know who these people are. Since 2001 they've been in a contest with Muslim pacifists to see who can stay quiet the longest.
Neel Mehta will be heartened to know that my husband is one of those Republicans, a fiscal conservative who is horrified by this Administration.
But I think what steams me more than our Imperial President is that the Democrats are gonna roll over AGAIN and nothing will happen to the man, or Cheney. Oh, they will have some hearings, blah blah, but in the end, nothing will get done.
When Nancy Pelosi took control, I contacted both of my Senators and told them I wanted this President impeached, as did a bunch of other people I know. The Democrats need to learn how to fight the Republicans instead of compromising and all that crap. The Republicans NEVER compromise, and they usually come out on top.
It hurts me to say that, but it's true. Rant over, sorry.

Neel -- They (principled GOP members, Muslim pacifists) aren't necessarily quiet, but they don't have much of an outlet. Sane people don't make good news copy.
NSAH: Possibly, but I'd buy many copies of a magazine with the headline "TURKISH IMAM DENOUNCES AL-QAEDA" or "SENIOR REPUBLICAN SENATOR SAYS CHENEY DOESN'T KNOW DICK". You'd want to know what they had to say before they were shot (in the face or otherwise).
