Han shot first

Best show I've seen on TV recently is "Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed," which is being rerun now and then on the History Channel. I've especially enjoyed the interviews with Colbert, Kevin Smith and Peter Jackson.

The only bad thing about the special (well, aside from all those Camille Paglia snippets) was that, whenever it showed clips from "A New Hope," it showed the ultra-geeked-out-special-FX version. The fancy version. The crap version, if you will. For example, they showed a clip of the cantina scene, likening Star Wars to the Old West. In the clip they showed, Greedo shoots at Han (missing him by at least a foot) a split second before Han fires back, killing Greedo. Soooooo not what really happened, and it pisses me off everytime I see it.

When AB is old enough to watch Star Wars ("A New Hope") -- which he will be in a few more months -- I will be showing him the 1977 version, untouched, unedited, and un-remastered (would that make it simply "mastered"? How very Jedi).

We've made the same decision. It's why we're hanging on to our VHS collection, and haven't purchased the digitally remastered DVDs.

I'm trying to think of when Mr. P will be ready to watch Star Wars. He will be five in September, but for some reason, I'm thinking that he isn't ready for it yet. He gets a little intimidated by Lord Vader, and I can't say as I blame him.

Juggling Freak is right there with you -- he can't STAND the remastered version with Greedo shooting first. He says it is an abomination unto the glory that is Star Wars.

And that show was really good. JF TiVoed both of those Star Wars themed shows that were running that night. And, I remember thinking -- "Blech. They used the remastered version with Greedo shooting first. SO *wrong!*"

So, when AB and ALB are fully converted to the Star Wars religion, are you planning on taking them down to Disney World for Star Wars Weekends? JF's excited because it's going on right now, and continuing until the end of June. (We leave in little more than a week, and our first stop is to Star Wars Weekends at MGM.) It's actually pretty cool. :) You can check out the whole deal through www.allears.net They have the schedule of events and photos.

Han shot first?!? Who are you to judge that? What happened to due process?

Here's what happened: The Trial of Han Solo. The actor doesn't look at all like Harrison Ford, but has the Han Solo mannerisms mastered. Enjoy.

If I had the time and video equipment that everyone else apparently has (given what you see these days on YouTube and Google), I'd do a Stormtrooper Olympics.

In the gold-medal shooting final, the winning score would be 2 of a possible 120. Someone else would have a score of 3, but he would have been been hit by an errant shot.

Naturally, that shot would be fatal, like every on-target blaster shot in the series except the one that hit Leia and caused a minor shoulder bruise.
