40
It's the number of students from my high school class that went to Virginia Tech--more than any other college or university.
Everyone in this area knows someone who goes to or went to Tech. Every neighborhood has a few cars with VT on the back, a few houses with VT flags out front. And around here, it's usually just "Tech," the "Virginia" being unnecessary.
We're in a state of disbelief. It's surreal. There's really nothing else to say.

I'm with you, APL. Not that 40 people from my high school went there (since that was the size of my graduating class), but I definitely know people, as does DH, and I spent a summer there on campus. Such a lovely little mountain town. I just can't imagine. State of disbelief is about right.

Wow.
It was a popular destination from my high school, too.
