Who knew?
Earlier this week, a job posting came across my email Inbox. It was part-time. It was for the federal government. It was a job made up of some of the more interesting (i.e., "sexy") aspects of my current job. It was exactly the type of job that, back when I started with my current employer, I thought, "In X years, I'll try to find this kind of job."
Well, it's been X years, and I found that - even when faced with this seemingly perfect job opportunity - I'm just not ready to leave yet. I'm enjoying my job too much. Never would've guessed.

It's nice when you actually get a reminder how good things are. I have a tendency to forget sometimes to appreciate how good a situation is until it's gone.
Yesterday I was telling Bert and my uncle (who hates his current job) that I wished we could think up some business for them that they loved and earned a decent living. They said "wouldn't you want to come too?" and I thought about it and thought "No I love my job and the people I work with."
It's nice huh?
Kind of funny how that happens. When we first started planning to have a kid I was looking forward to leaving my job. When that time finally rolled around, I found myself questioning whether I really wanted to leave because I was enjoying it so much at that point.
I think it's awesome! So many in our profession have a tough time finding their niche!
That's a great kind of validation to get.
It's an enormous gift to love what you're doing. Any job, paid or unpaid, takes up so much of your time that if you don't at least like it, it's pretty much impossible to be happy.
And, as seeking solace said: so many lawyer are unhappy in their work, but feel trapped by those "golden handcuffs."
Hooray for enjoying your job!!!
If the damn application process wasn't so long and dreary, when I was in lawschool I always thought I'd love working for the federal government as a lawyer. Except for that living in DC thing. Ugh.
Who knows. If I ever move back to the states, I'll have to evaluate my career options, that is, if I have any left after this long stint out of the work force. Hmmm.
wow! that's huge :-)
I'm so glad to hear that you are enjoying your job. I left the firm for a fed. gov't job and it's just fabulous. and tons of my co-workers are on p/t schedules. i work flex right now. but...the pay sucks of course!! so more power to you :-)
glad to have found your blog.
