From the "holy crap!" department...

Ignacio Suarez would say we have a plethora of pinatas!

In other words, I was watching Three Amigos for the millionth time today (thank you, American Movie "Classics"), and it struck me that the character of Jefe looked familiar in a different way this time. Checked on IMDB and, sure enough, Jefe (Tony Plana) is Ugly Betty's dad!

I know it's a minor thing, but it had me cracking up all afternoon. (Severe lack of sleep may be coloring my view of things...)

Too funny. I watched that movie today too! I love the scene when the Amigos are sitting around the campfire singing with the horses doing the backing vocals and the turtle swaying along!

Way.

Love Tony Plana, mostly because of Jefe. He was also the father (though a more rigid one) in last year's soccer drama Goal! The Dream Begins.

Actually, pretty impressive filmography, now that I look at it.

El Guapo himself, Alfonso Arau, is best known as a director now. Highlights include Like Water for Chocolate and A Walk in the Clouds.

Speaking of '80s comedies with future directors, read the full cast list for Spies Like Us. It's like they crashed a young Director's Guild meeting.

When I discover something from the past has now made it into the present, I think "Man, look how fast I rocketed from the dark ages to hip!"

I don't know what I will do when the next generation takes over advertising and "my" music is no longer current again. But that is for another day.
