It's all about me

Seeking Solace tagged me, but I decided to put a little twist on it.

I am I am, I am Superman, and I can do anything.
I want you to want me.
I wish I was the souvenir you kept your house key on.
I hate myself for loving you, can't break free from the things that you do.
I love your way, every day.
I fear nothing besides myself.
I hear the secrets that you keep when you're talking in your sleep.
I wonder wonder who, whooooo, who wrote the book of love.
I am not dead, this is how rumors get started.
I sing the body electric.
I can see it in your eyes, you keep staring at the floor.
I need you, like the flowers need the rain.
I would have stayed up with you all night had I known how to save a life.

All right, I think I got all of them except #3 (helped that you started with REM). What is it?

(Btw, the Short Angry Freuds did a marvelous version of "I Sing the Body Electric.")

Love, love, love that song. And that one. Never heard that one. Or that one. Like that one. Never heard that one. Oooh, I haven't heard that one in years. That one I sang in summer camp. I don't think I know that one. Great, now I've got that one in my head. Oooooh, I really love that one. Never heard this one or that one.

That is excellent. And yeah, it is now a total Cheap-Trick-a-thon in my head, too.

Ken, #3 is Pearl Jam's "Wishlist," one of the sweetest songs I've ever heard. Did you really get #6 (I fear)? I'm impressed.

I need a list, because I'm rock/pop-challenged (I can sing a few of these but don't know who sang them, except for R.E.M. and the kids from Fame -- and I am so checking out that Short Angry Freuds version!)

Since Genevieve asked:

I am: "Superman" by REM
I want: "I Want You to Want Me" by Cheap Trick
I wish: "Wishlist" by Pearl Jam
I hate: "Hate Myself for Loving You" by Joan Jett
I love: "Baby I Love Your Way" by Peter Frampton
I fear: "Torn" by Toad the Wet Sprocket
I hear: "Talking in Your Sleep" by the Romantics
I wonder: "Who Wrote the Book of Love" by the Monotones (?)
I am not: SNL sketch involving Natalie Cole and Tammy Wynette
I sing: the kids from Fame
I can: "I Can See It In Your Eyes" by Men at Work
I need: "I Need You" by America
I would: "How to Save a Life" by the Fray

I am merely a man, but I bring nothing but love for you (also could've gone with "I am Henry the 8th, I am" or "I am extraordinary" or even "I am the walrus")
I want to spit in their faces, but I get afraid of what that could bring
I wish I had that instinct, I wish I had that drive
I hate the powder on your nose
I love to love you, baby
I fear rivers overflowing
I hear the drums of heaven too
I wonder who's in my old college room
I am not afraid
I sing a lullaby
I can put a spare bulb in my hand, light this whole town
I need you around
I would climb the Empire State, fight Muhammad Ali, just to have you, baby, close to me

(Funny thing is that I never use the word "baby" in actual conversation unless I'm referring to an infant)

Thanks, APL! The Frampton one I knew (due to "High Fidelity"), but not the singers of the others.

NSAH's I don't recognize at all except for Henry the 8th and "love to love you baby" (who was that? I'm thinking it was big in 1990-91.)
