Everybody knows it sucks to grow up

This is a list of the concerts I would be attending in the next few months if I weren't avoiding smokey venues or, alternatively, really busy at work (in the past week alone, I've missed Laura Viers and Wheatus):

Angels & Airwaves
The Stills
KT Tunstall (w/ Teitur)
Snow Patrol
Hotel Lights
Ben Folds (who gave me the title of this post)
Elvis Costello
Belle & Sebastian (w/ Broken Social Scene)

Adulthood can suck at times. I'm not a total loser, though--I'm going to two concerts this summer. And if Dr. Corndog comes to the area for a performance, I will make time to attend!

On the adulthood-doesn't-suck-so-much side of the coin, the unborn one has been kicking a lot lately. So that's pretty cool.

Speaking of Ben Folds, did you and Angry Boy go see the movie?

It's funny you ask, Neel, because the closing credits were my favorite part of the movie, and the only time I really laughed out loud. I adored the rewrite of "Rockin' the Suburbs" (of course, I love the original as well). And go Ben with the shoutout to Chevy Chase! D.C. 'burbs in da house!

I should tell you that Angry Boy LOVED the movie and wants to see it again, as soon as possible. In fact, as we were walking out of the theater, he asked, "Where's the movie?" He was ready for a back-to-back viewing. He is so my child.

J and I saw the movie this weekend and liked it too - I was asking, now who is that singing? I like the music - and then saw it was Ben Folds. (I didn't know the original, being not so cool, but I do like Ben Folds a lot. I wonder if Rockin' the Suburbs is on the CD we have?)

My brother, my nephew, and I are going to Bonnaroo. I'm sure my brother and I will be the oldest guys there, and probably everyone will think we're narcs. But it will be worth it for Radiohead, Elvis Costello, Beck, Steve Earle, etc.

And, just for you (and Liz and Genevieve), I'll try to squeeze in a Jammin' Java open mic again one of these days.

It's actually my fault, though -- even before AB, we only went to a handful of concerts. When I turned 30, my willingness to stand around with a bunch of omnipierced kids smoking and yakking about high school declined precipitously.

Still, at least we saw The Samples before they dropped to one original member.

If we still had smoky venues around here, I wouldn't be attending any concerts at all, so I completely understand. We just bought tickets to see Dave Matthews at Fenway Park (YAY!) and Shakira at the Boston Garden. I can't wait!

AB, as usual, is the cutest.

Sounds like a good gift for you would be a statewide smoking ban... and a new job!

I'm thinking about Bonnaroo, too but I have to find someone to go w/ me. I took one of my seven year olds to hear Better Than Ezra a couple of weeks ago and it just wasn't the same as going with the girls, particularly since I had to put him on my back so he could see.

Jellybean, they'll be at smoke-free (depending on where you sit) Merriweather Post on July 8. If you go, report back and let us know how it was.
