Definitely not ready for this

Less than a year ago, I was still "Mama."

A few days ago, he started calling me "Mom." I won't have it, I tell ya, I just won't have it.

Just wait until he comes home from college and calls you "mother." That nearly killed me.

That would only happen once. I'd pee myself from laughing too hard, and he'd be terrified to say it again.

What makes it worse is that I used to call my mother "Mother" because I wasn't feeling fondly toward her.
Now he uses it to tease me.

Curious Girl is trying to call me mom, rather than mama, and I am really trying to resist that (but not so much that she notices it and starts doing it to punch my buttons...although really, how long can I say things like "If you want my attention, say "mama!" and expect her not to notice it?

Fortunately, CG's own name is subject to several nicknames, and on different days she is also picky about which ones we can use (or not), so she seems to get both the playfulness of names and the importance of picking ones own.

I really don't want to be "mom."

They all call me "mom", save Scruffy who still calls me "mommy." Last year Apple had to have a mole removed. Right before the doctor took the scalpel to her she looked at me and said "MOMMY!" and reached out fo my hand. She was 13. Just like he will always be your baby, you will always be "Mama" deep inside him.

You can fight it and win. It worked for me, at least so far. "Mom" has been banished. Though she's been flirting with "Mommy" lately. Ack!

Oh, I died a little inside when I was downgraded from "Mommy" to "Mom." It was a sure sign that she had outgrown the childish, Mommy-needing phase.

I'll shed a tear for you, in honor of your new status. :)

I absolutely adore being called "mama" and my son knows it....although he does break out with 'mom' once in awhile, he does treat me to the occasional 'mama' - and that means a lot coming from a 15 year old.

Thankfully, I always get Mama. (My Mom or My Mommy only in her school assignments -- and she can call me just about anything she wants if she's still choosing to write about my hugs and kisses for her homework!)

Her Papa, however, much to his great dismay sometimes gets Dad or, the horror, Daddy. Having grown up with a "Papa" myself in a circle of friends who all had "Dads," though, I get why at 7 sometimes you just want to say "Dad" like the other kids.
