Two words on Oscar idiocy: Hoop Dreams
Point well taken on Hoop Dreams. I've gotta disagree a little about Murderball, though -- I thought it was verging on dishonest, or at least incredibly manipulative, when it came to Mark Zupan's relationship with his friend who was driving, as well as with the younger kid who wants to start wheelchair rugby. In the latter case, it looked an awful lot like the filmmakers set up the meeting between Zupan and the kid, which should have been disclosed. And it seemed like they exaggerated the extent of the rift between him and the driver. None of which makes the underlying story any less powerful -- I just wish the filmmakers were more honest about what they were up to. As a piece of filmmaking, I think the penguin movie was much better constructed. (Yeesh, opinionated this morning? Apparently I've turned into Pauline Kael here this morning -- sorry!)
Thanks....just added it to my Netflix list.
Thanks, I'll have to add it to my list. I will say, however, that one of the criticisms in Philly has been that it was marketed totally inappropriately. There was no compelling motivation to see it, which is why it may not have performed as well at the box office as hoped.
Oooh, I'm adding it to my list also.
Angry Pregnant Lawyer - can you help me? I'm soliciting those I read and love to vote for me:Please go here: http://www.denibonet.com/blog/and choose my ugly, naked, colorful lady (she's the last in line) for the Best of Bad Art Award. Thanks!!
