We want the funk

During the car ride home from daycare, I played DJ with my iPod and fielded the following requests from Angry Boy:

  • "I on your sye?" TRANSLATION: On Your Side, Pete Yorn

  • "Yor byoo-full?" TRANSLATION: You're Beautiful, James Blunt

  • "We listen to funk?" TRANSLATION: Up for the Down Stroke, Parliament

I also played Wild Cherry's Play that Funky Music (White Boy), but after enjoying the opening, he became unhappy with the lyrics and began shaking his head and saying, "No white boy, no white boy!" Um, OK.

I am so in love with the idea that Angry Boy likes Parliament! I've seen variations of the P-Funk 4 times now!

How cute!

Any idea why he is afraid of "white boy"?

AB is ahead of his years. He already knows that white boys can't REALLY be funky.

I think I'm in love with that kid.

When Daughter #2 was 4 years old, her preschool class visited the philharmonic. All the kids got a chance to sing a song in the microphone, most chose the Barney Song or Itsy Bitsy Spider. She chose "Play that Funky Music". The philhamonic started playing with her and all the teachers cheered. She knew all the words. Bert had a compilation CD with it and we played it all the time. The teachers told us she wasn't intimidated at all, and how they wished they had a video camera.

"No white boy! No white boy!"

Seriously, is it too early to arrange a marriage between Angry Boy and Baby Blue?

Lisa V made me laugh so hard that I scared the kids.

I adore AB (J. finds that song kind of odd, though not as disturbing as AB does). And Lisa V's daughter #2 is hilarious - I love the idea of the philharmonic playing along! The orchestral version of Play That Funky Music . . .

Oh, he is too much fun. And I'm a bit obsessing with James Blunt right now, so I second his second request. :-)
