Happy Thanksgiving

Angry Boy let us sleep in today, which was nice. See, I can do the three-hours-of-sleep thing so long as the next night I can compensate. Tuesday night/Wednesday morning saw me up until 3:30 a.m., but last night I think I conked out around 10 and didn't wake up till close to 8. Very nice.

This morning we watched the entire Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, which I hadn't done since before high school. It was quite fun watching it with AB. Any time a band would come on, he'd stop playing with his toys and run and stand in front of our tiny TV, saying "marching band!" He also liked the Sesame Street float. Did anyone else notice the conspicuously absent Maria? She was the only cast member not present. I hypothesized to my husband that it's like the State of the Union Address: they can't have everyone present at the Capitol at the same time, in case the place gets bombed, so someone has to stay home. I guess this year, Maria drew the short straw and had to stay away from the parade... Can't afford to lose the entire cast of Sesame Street.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a happy and stress-free Thanksgiving. I am being sincere when I say I'm thankful that I've met you guys, both virtually and (for some of you) in real life.

Does it worry anyone else that Maria still looks so good after all these years? I mean, Bob has clearly aged, Susan has gained a lot of weight, Luis isn't around so much anymore. But Maria still loks great. I'm wondering if there's a portrait of her hanging in Sesame Workshop somewhere...

Happy Thanksgiving, APL!

Yes, PS! I hope I look half as good when I'm Maria's age. Every now and then she'll wear a low-cut shirt... and DAYYYUM! I think Miles hangs around Gabi so much because he's really hot for Maria.

It was really disconcerting to see Gina as a teenager on that old Sesame Street tape at the doctor's office, especially now that she's clearly older. Still not a fan of the blonde hair. But in that season or two of reruns we get, she's quite a cutie. And your little boy thinks so, too.

I think Bob needs some new clothes. He dresses worse than I do.

But he still sings great, that Bob!
I wondered where the heck Maria was, too. Not that we watch the show anymore. All the children are too old. Sigh. I remember the year Maria and Luis fell in love. #1 Son and I watched avidly as the romance unfolded.
Okay, maybe it was just me. He was probably watching for Grover's continuing adventures with the man who had the beady eyes and big blue head ("in a hurry to be fed").

Ha! Very funny float theory...I, too, wondered about Maria but not in nearly so witty a way. Our parade fun was all about the balloons--CG kept trying to kiss the TV.

Hope you enjoy eating all the leftovers. Happy Thanksgiving!

We forgot about the parade till the afternoon (were busy playing Slamwich, reading, and watching some TiVo), but the Maria / Sesame Street theory just cracks me up. I have to email that to DH.

As a baby, I crawled on stage with Bob. He was not pleased.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I like the Maria theory, too. But while we're on the subject of Maria, I still miss David. (Wasn't that his name, David? The guy she was dating before Luis?) And Linda. Does anyone know what happened to Linda?

Oh, ignore me. I'm just an old crank who thinks the show was so much better when I was a kid.

Happy Thanksgiving!

P.S. Not only am I amazed at how well Maria has aged -- she must have been a teenager when she started, right? Right!? -- I'm also pretty impressed by her articles on parenting at

I bet she was kept in the safehouse on purpose.

"Marching band!" Very cute.

I'm going to try the Maria thing on my husband to see if I can stay home from dinner at his sister's tonight. You know, I have to stay home to represent the family and preserve the homestead in case there's a terror attack at my sister-in-law's dinner.

Yeah. That's the ticket.
