5 ways in which I'm weird

Busy weekend. Took Angry Boy into the city not once but twice. I gotta get him there more often. On Saturday, I wondered if maybe we'd be part of the headcount for the Millions More March. Power to the people.

Anyway, last week, MC at Running*Cooking*Writing tagged me for the 5 idiosyncracies meme. Here goes:

1. I am quick to anger but also quick to forgive. I think it's laziness more than anything else. It takes too much energy to be pissed at someone for more than half an hour.

2. Is hating the movie Raising Arizona an idiosyncrasy? Everyone I know loves it, including tons people smarter than I. I just can't stand it. It's 2 hours of people screaming. Blech.

3. I get the hiccups abnormally often.

4. I actually like to clean toilets. We have a cleaning service now, so I generally don't clean them anymore. But that was, I think, the only cleaning task I never minded doing.

5. I get obsessed with things, and then toss them aside. I mean, really obsessed. (Can there be degrees of obsession? Is it possible to be only a little obsessed? I guess not.) At varying times, I have been obsessed with: Carrie Fisher, Paul Simon (probably an offshoot of being obsessed with Fisher), The X-Files, ER, F. Scott Fitzgerald, personality disorders, the X-Men, and more.

So you have the Paul Simon Muppet Show, right? So that you can pass your obsession down to the next generation?

I think #5 is a lawyerly trait, not sure why, but most lawyers I know (including myself and my husband) are like this.

I personally love "Raising Arizona", but I think it is perfectly normal to hate the movie.

After you visit jo(e)'s house, you are more than welcome to come here and clean my toilet. Do you by any chance like to fold laundry?

I share your ER obsession. I have dreams about the characters; it is sad.

I don't think of the last trait as an obsession, but more as a means of getting to know a subject as thoroughly as possible, especially in the arts of music, writing, or yes, even television. I've done that with authors, the most recent being Dorothy L. Sayers. I read a review of one of her Lord Peter Whimsey books, read everything she's written (I'm reading a book she wrote on creativity and being an artist right now), and multiple biographies. It's just another means of educating yourself outside of academia.

As for the toilet cleaning, again, I don't think it's abnormal to find one task you prefer over others. Some people love to iron, some love yard work, some love doing dishes. It's just a matter of choices.

Toilet cleaning? Not abnormal, I really don't mind it. Something satisfying in knowing that its clean, and let's face it....its a smaller area than the bathtub! I'd rather clean the toilet than vacuum any day! (I have an abnormal hatred for vacumming!)

I don't like Raising Arizona, either; if that makes us weird, so be it.

Glad I'm not the only one, Suzanne. Although we may be the only two...

And, yes, Phantom, I do have that one on tape!

Those passing obsessions make sense to me--I think it's a feature of wanting to be well-informed about something. And then at some point, I think I know enough, and it stops. Or at least that's the palatable explanation I give myself.

Ack! All these Raising Arizona haters! I loved that movie, though it is true I haven't seen it in probably 20 years. Maybe I wouldn't like it so much now.

I am also chiming in: please come to my house anytime you'd like to clean our toilets!

Ok, the toilet thing is odd.

But, your forgiving is wonderful. There are so many angry, hurtful people who have no clue how to forgive or see the good in a situation. I don't call what you do lazy--I call it grace. Good way to be. Others should take your lead!

Is it just me, or is cleaning toilets really easy?? I can't say that I like it, but it's certainly quickly accomplished and then done. As for Raising Arizona, I dated a guy whose friends could only speak in quotes from that movie. Which, as you might guess, got irritating after a while... but I still have to admit to liking the movie. Seems really dated now, though.

I'm with you: I hated, hated, hated Raising Arzona and was also obsessed with Carrie Fischer -- as Princess Leia.
