Sounds of silence

Tiny Kingdom has tagged me to blog about the five songs I'm listening to most right now. I'm always flattered to be tagged. Thanks... unbeknownst to TK, however, this task has me sad because I just don't listen to music anymore. In the morning, I listen to the local morning guy. At work, I don't listen to music. In the car on the way home, I flip around the radio dial. I've had the same 6 CDs in the car stereo for over a year now, and since they've been in there for so long, I'm tired of them and hardly ever listen to them. When I get home, I work and watch TV. Again, no music.

So instead, I'll list the last five songs I played on iTunes:

1-4: Songs from The Aristocats
5. "Going Through the Motions," Aimee Mann

OK, now I'm thoroughly depressed. Too depressed to tag anyone, but please go ahead and list your songs if you'd like. I'm off to brush my teeth and go to my music-less dreams. Feh.

I'm even sadder than that. Somehow, my music outside of the car has become reduced to Barney songs, Barney songs, or more Barney songs. I caught myself singing one today when no child was around.

I would much prefer to sing the Aristocats songs.

My husband has an ungodly long commute, so he's always listening to music. He's always asking me if I even heard of groups--and I feel so out of it. I do like Aimee Mann, though.

Hey there APL,

It's justjohn from TWoP. I couldn't imagine music not being a major part of my life, even if my life ever got as hectic as yours.

Anyhoo, to get you out of your no-music rut, I'd suggest picking up the just-released CD by The New Pornographers, "Twin Cinema." Great power-poppish, hooks-galore stuff. Their other two CDs, "Mass Romantic" and "Electric Version" are excellent, too.

If you want to try one song to start with, download "Letter From An Occupant" from "Mass Romantic." Sometimes, I think that's the best song ever made.

You know you can use iTunes to make CD mixes, right?

Or maybe I'll look for a better car adaptor for your iPod for the next birthday or other anniversary-type thing. (Almost nine years since our first date!)

In any case, I'd love to see those CDs come out of your car so I can get Nada Surf and Garbage on my iPod, though I listen to the same three songs every time I borrow your car.
